DID YOU KNOW?!

Blueberry: has one of the highest concentrations of antioxidants of any fruit/vegetable (mostly flavonoids as anthocyanins) and 1 cup contains 24% RDI of Vitamin C.

A note on antioxidants: Your body is constantly balancing an onslaught of free radicals from your environment. Normal biological processes product free radicals (oxidizing agents) in your body. Antioxidants can switch these “off” to prevent DNA and cell damage which benefits just about every part of your health. Immune cells are no different and need protection from environmental stressors to do their job properly. The increased metabolism of immune cells during an infection can increase free radical production so it’s especially important to get hefty dose of antioxidants during this time.

Yogurt: contains Vitamin B12 and Calcium as well as extra protein. Includes live cultures of beneficial probiotics which have been shown in numerous studies to boost immunity (usually by enhancing immune cell activity). Your gut microbiome plays a huge role in breaking down your food and aiding in vitamin & mineral absorption.

Ginger: contains several anti-inflammatory compounds including antioxidants (gingerol). Confers many of the same benefits as turmeric to mitigate chronic inflammation that can occur during an infection.

Vitamins and Minerals for immunity found in this recipe:

Vitamin C: an antioxidant, well-known immunity booster, aids in skin barrier against pathogens. Accumulates in phagocytes (a type of immune cell) and enhances their ability to move around the body killing intruders.

B vitamins 6 & 12: work together to help make red blood cells as well boost immune cell production.
