Small Tricks to Make a Meal Healthier

At the turn of a new year, many people pledge to eat healthier. Healthy eating starts with making small changes that can have a large impact over time. Let’s look at some easy tricks that can make just about any meal more nutritious:

Choose poultry and fish over red meat – Red meats such as beef, pork and lamb generally contain more cholesterol and saturated fat than chicken and fish, according to the American Heart Association.

Don’t drown your salad – Salads (obviously) are very healthy. But don’t ruin a nutritious meal by dousing it with too much dressing. Just like most foods, use salad dressing in moderation to limit calorie consumption. One serving of ranch, for example, contains about 145 calories and 15 grams of fat!

Add a serving of protein – Whether it’s BiPro, lean meat or nuts, adding protein to a meal is a great way to make it more nutritious and well rounded. Protein not only gives your body the nutrients it needs to function properly, but it is also a natural appetite suppressant. That’s right: Protein can help you feel fuller longer, limiting you from overeating.
